Guillermo Monjaras is always ready to try something new.
Since starting with THERAPY 2000 in November 2001, he has worked in the field as a translator, and in the office as an administrative assistant, in the IT department, and now as Central Division Staffing Coordinator.

“Being such a small company, everybody takes on a lot of roles. It keeps things exciting, and you don’t get bored.”
Now Guillermo is ready to take the biggest step so far. In August, he’ll start Tarrant County College’s two-year program to become a licensed physical therapist assistant.

He said he’s learned a lot in his office job, and he’s ready to move out to the front lines.

“It’s been a ride, but now I think I can venture on to something else.”
Guillermo was accepted into the T2K Career Track Assistance Program, which was offered to unlicensed office staff for the first time this year. He’ll work as an administrative assistant for 12 hours a week while attending school, and will keep his full-time pay and benefits.

Guillermo said he became interested in physical therapy after observing some home visits. He felt comfortable with the specialty, and really enjoys working with kids.

“It was pretty interesting, but I didn’t know how to get into a program, how you could do a program and still work.”

So when he heard T2K was going to start offering career track assistance to office staff, he enrolled in college and starting work on his prerequisites.

“I wanted to hopefully be the first one accepted to the program,” he said.

After he finishes school, Guillermo will stay on with T2K for at least two years.

“He’s really fun to work with,” said Angela Lawson, RN, Central Division Manager. “He’s very focused and has a very calming demeanor. He really knows how to joke.”

She says she’ll miss Guillermo around the office, but she knows he’ll make a great PTA.
“He already has the inside track,” she said. “He hears things on our end about what to do and what not to do. He has a real love for kids. He’s just a really good person.”

Guillermo is a Dallas native and graduated from Adamson High School in 1991. He’s the fourth of five kids and enjoys spending time with his two nephews and three nieces. During the summer months he’ll often take some time away from the office to take them swimming.

“They all love it,” he said. “They’d swim year-round if they could.”

He’s excited about his future as a physical therapist assistant, and with T2K.

“It’s an improvement,” he said. “Therapy doesn’t get boring, and you’re constantly changing patients.”

Guillermo says he used to be a shy person, but his different jobs have brought him out of his shell.

“I think it’s been a great experience working here, and there’s no end in sight.”
